DeFi & GameFi, Exclusive Class in Blockchain at Telkom University
DeFi & GameFi, Exclusive Class in Blockchain at Telkom University is a program intended to provide information for Telkom University students to learn what is important and how useful DeFi & GameFi technology is in this modern era. The DeFi & GameFi lecture program was held last Wednesday, May 17, 2023, at Telkom University. The program was implemented using the hybrid method, but most participants attended onsite to learn directly from amazing speakers who had already mastered DeFi & GameFi in various fields. Likewise, Defi and GameFi were also conducted on Zoom Meeting, where most of the participants are from our partner universities: Universiti Malaysia Terengganu and Universiti Malaysia Pahang. DeFi stands for decentralized finance. It’s a new financial technology that is based on secure distributed ledgers, similar to the ones used by cryptocurrencies.
DeFi and GameFi’s Exclusive Launch of Blockchain in Indonesia Highlights:
Decentralized finance, or DeFi, eliminates middlemen by enabling individuals, merchants, and businesses to conduct financial transactions using emerging technology. DeFi employs security protocols, connectivity, software, and hardware advancements via peer-to-peer financial networks.
And how do DeFi and GameFi work? Mr. Andrew Suhalim from LITEDEX taught the participants. Decentralized finance employs the same blockchain technology as cryptocurrencies. Mr. Andrew also said the DeFi is very important and could become the biggest potential money currency in digital era 4.0. What is the connection between DeFi and GameFi? Basically, GameFi combines blockchain technology, such as decentralized finance (DeFi), and gaming. It refers to blockchain games that offer players economic incentives to participate. So DeFi and GameFi create a virtual world or virtual gaming reality where people use the gaming ecosystem as cryptocurrencies; the main example of this is NFT, or what people call “non-fungible tokens”.
Recently, in the late 2020s and early 2021s, most people or celebrities used NFT as their main income or currency, where they had to design art like avatars or create cartoons of themselves and sell them to some people. Other people could buy them, but only with cryptocurrencies such as Bitcoin or Ethereum.
Some other speakers also shared their knowledge about DeFi and GameFi with participants through various methods and topics, such as:
- Blockchain Ecosystem
- DeFi and GameFi characters
- Web3 Terminology
One of the most interesting topics that has been shared in this program are the factors of shadow banning and censorship on all social media platforms, such as Facebook, Instagram, and more. This topic was brought up by Mr. Gilang Bhagaskara from Myriad and taught us the connection between shadow banning, censorship, and DeFi and GameFi, the upcoming future virtual technologies such as Metaverse, where people can feel the experience of meeting new people and see the new world with virtual technology. DeFi and GameFi will also be the most important thing or could become the main currency in the Metaverse world. But in this case, the main problems are shadow banning and censorship without further reason, because most social media platforms are strengthening their security and encrypting their data, so with that reason, people’s privacy can be protected and not shared away or, even worse, sold to the black market.
End of the program: lots of knowledge and information we gained about blockchain, or DeFi and GameFi, in this program, and the most important thing: how will it affect the currencies around the world? Will the blockchain or DeFi and GameFi still maintain their position as consistent cryptocurrencies?
Those are the highlights of the DeFi and GameFi in Indonesia program; are you ready to learn more and explore the world of blockchain?
