MCRBS, Telkom University Disaster Management Innovation
MCRBS, Telkom University Disaster Management Innovation. Telkom University never stops creating innovations to always contribute to the nation, including creating a disaster management innovation named Mobile Cognitive Radio Base Station (MCRBS). Recently, Telkom University through its Research Center, named AICOMS (Advanced Intelligent Comms.) has successfully launched a tool that is able to capture signals from various generations of communication and is given the ability to “connect” the disaster area to a safe area so that communication can be established and rescue actions can be carried out more quickly, effectively, and efficiently.
It is a Mobile Base Station with the name MCRBS. In February 2021, this Base Station has undergone its third trial and has been successfully connected to 2G, 3G, 4G, and 5G networks. MCRBS is a designed to be detachable Base Station consisting of a tower, antenna, power system, and control system, which can be easily moved as needed (for example, installed on a disaster management car).
MCRBS is Good News
The good news, in addition to successfully providing communication and internet data connections, the latest MCRBS designs are capable of being independent in terms of power with the help of generators, batteries, and solar panels. So it can be used in areas that are not covered by electricity. Therefore MCRBS is able to reach more areas, even in remote areas that have not been reached by electricity.
Khoirul Anwar, the leader of AICOMS, the researcher of MCRBS, said the reason behind the creation of the Mobile Base Station (MCRBS) was to help provide tools that can provide useful information and communication in the event of a disaster so that disaster management can be performed immediately. “As we all know, disasters can happen anytime and anywhere. The impact of disasters cannot be avoided but can be minimized with several disaster prevention techniques. In some cases of very severe disasters, communication access is often not available. This is why MCRBS is created. Therefore, MCRBS is here to provide network recovery and at the same time carry out rescue actions for disaster victims”, he said.
The hard work and smart work of the AICOMS team paid off. The latest information, this MCRBS has been successfully implemented in the city of Padang which cooperating with PT. FUSI Global Technology and the Padang City Regional Disaster Management and Fire Fighting Agency (BPBD-PK).
Seeing this success, MCRBS has the potential to be implemented in ASEAN countries and can strengthen Indonesia’s economic position in the ASEAN Economic Community (AEC). In addition, of course, MCRBS is expected to help many parties in dealing with disasters management. MCRBS is from Telkom University to the world.(IO)***
