Studying Abroad: Analyzing and Understanding Cultural Nuances. Studying abroad can be a great experience. From gaining an excellent education to exploring a new country, getting new work opportunities, and creating a better future for themselves. However, living in another country isn’t always easy.

Responding to those situations, International Office Telkom University organized After Class Talk 2023 Episode 1 on International Student Series. The title of ACT Episode 1 is Studying Abroad: Analyzing and Understanding Cultural Nuances and it was held on Tuesday, 31 January 2023 at 2 pm. To Study Abroad: Analyzing and Understanding Cultural Nuances event invited 2 foreign students from two different countries. Nurlilis Alia, Telkom University Student from Malaysia, and Mawhibah Hasan, Telkom University Student from Indonesia.

Analyzing and Understanding Cultural Nuances in Studying Abroad

Mawhibah opens the first interval of Studying Abroad: Analyzing and Understanding Cultural Nuances event by retelling her experience studying and joining student exchange in Hanyang University, South Korea. During his stay in South Korea, Mawhibah was quite surprised by Korean culture which was totally different from Indonesia. Beside sharing her experince in studying abroad, she told the participants of the Studying Abroad: Analyzing and Understanding Cultural Nuances event, one of which was how they wash moist garbage, such as ketchup bags, before discarding it.

At the Studying Abroad: Analyzing and Understanding Cultural Nuances event, Nurlilis retells her experience in Indonesia. She is currently studying as an undergraduate student majoring in interior design. Even though Malaysian culture is known to have a similar culture to Indonesia’s, Nurlilis still experienced culture shock while in Indonesia. Studying Abroad: Analyzing and Understanding Cultural Nuances is challenging but also gives lots of lessons.

In conclusion, Studying Abroad: Analyzing and Understanding Cultural Nuances or living far away from home is an invaluable experience – a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to live in a foreign country, learn its customs and culture, and adapt to new surroundings. The success of your experience aspecially in studying abroad, depends upon your own efforts to acclimate yourself to living and studying in a foreign culture. Absolutely, studying abroad might be different from studying in our home country. Studying atmosphere and studying companion will be some challenging factors in studying abroad.
