Skills Upgrade: 1st Class of ATU-Net Entrepreneurship

Skills are related to the ability of reason, thoughts, ideas and creativity in doing work or tasks so that they become more meaningful. Skills don’t just come; skills have to be honed and upgraded. Telkom University in collaboration with other member of ATU-Net designs an online mobility program to facilitate students to upgrade their skills, named ATU-Net Entrepreneurship Online Mobility Program. It is a virtual mobility program organized by Telkom University-Indonesia, Universiti Teknikal Malaysia Melaka (UTeM), Universiti Teknologi MARA-Malaysia (UiTM), Shibaura Institute of Technology (SIT)-Japan, and Cebu Technological University (CTU)-Philippines.

The 1st day of ATU-Net Entrepreneurship Online Mobility Program has been successfully held on Saturday, September 4th, 2021. Prof. Hiroyuki Ishizaki, a visiting professor from Shibaura Institute of Technology-Japan, as well as a chair of ATU-Net Mobility Specialist Interest Group, Virtual Asia Exploration (VAx) program and Entrepreneurship, had the opportunity to officially open the class and explain brief overview of the ATU-Net Entrepreneurship Online Mobility Program including the subject goals, learning methods and syllabus, and the final project presentation. Soft skills mostly will be taught in the program.

Skills Obtained in ATU-Net Entrepreneurship Online Mobility Program

During approximately 3 months of study in the ATU-Net Entrepreneurship Online Mobility Program, the participants are expected to be able to apply the concept and importance of entrepreneurship to real world, to demonstrate the techniques in digital entrepreneurship practiced by entrepreneurs to market business, and to choose suitable business idea and process in developing a business plan for a small business. These skills are important for the future. Three study approaches are employed in the program to expect the 3 major skills including:

  1. Hard skills: Business & Management Knowledge. Those skills are expected to be gained through online lectures.
  2. Soft skills: Practice for Team Work & Communication. These skills can be trained through group discussion & practice.
  3. Practical skills: Simulation for Actual Business. Through group project and final presentation, the participants are expected to be able to choose suitable business idea and process in developing a business plan for a small business.

Although the classes will be done online, the team has designed interesting and various activities to engage with the participants to explore their skills. In the 1st class of the program, Dr. Atirah Sufian, a lecturer of Universiti Teknikal Malaysia Melaka (UTeM) shared about Introduction to Entrepreneurship and Business Environment through Zoom Lectures and Google Classroom activities. Participants were also involved in the group discussions to start generating product/service ideas for their final project. Hopefully this will improve their communication skills also.

The topic of the 1st class was truly insightful. Participants are well informed about the Introduction to Entrepreneurship and Business Environment. Stay tuned on the next class, September 11th, 2021 on the topic of Ideation and Business Model Canvas.(IO)***
