Robotics & Image Processing, 3rd Week of VSC in Future Technology
Robotics is one of the technologies that is developing rapidly today. The existence of robotics is very helpful for humans in completing various tasks, for example the Autonomous UVC Mobile Robot (AUMR), a robotics innovation of Telkom University that can help for having disinfection & sterilization in the isolation room of Covid-19 positive patients without direct human’s intervention. This robotics will minimize the spread of Covid-19. Learning robotics nowadays is increasingly in demand because many students and researcher would like to develop innovation, especially in robotics field to create some tools that can be useful for helping people in reducing time consume, cost and also manpower in completing certain task.
As in the 3rd week of Virtual Short Course in Future Technology, Robotics became one of the topics presented in the morning session (Saturday, October 23, 2021). Mr. Muhammad Ikhsan Sani, S.T., M.T., and Mr. Simon Siregar, S.Si., M.T., lecturers of Telkom University as well as the speakers of Robotics in the morning session, demonstrated how to create mobile robot simulation using Webots. According to the speakers of Robotics session, Webots is a professional mobile robot simulation software package that offers a rapid prototyping environment allowing user to create 3D virtual worlds with physics properties such as mass, joints, friction coefficients, etc.
Robotics: Line Follower Robot in Webots.
In robotics subject, Line Follower Robot is a machine which follows a line, either a black line or white line. Basically there are two types of line follower robots: one is black line follower which follows black line and second is white line follower which follows white line. Mr. Simon assisted students to create a robotics project, line follower robot simulation using Webots. From installing Webots on computer to creating robotics projects, Mr. Simon patiently guided the students step by step. The students, in their robotics simulation project, were assisted by Mr. Simon in preparing the arena and e-puck robot. Noticing that the projects cannot be done in one session, the speakers of Robotics session assigned the students to finish the robotics project in a team and it must be presented in the next meeting.
Robotics & Image Processing Projects
After Robotics session, the class was continued with the material on Image Processing delivered by Dr. M. Rasheed M. Nassr, a lecturer from Universiti Kuala Lumpur Malaysia. In this session, students learned about how image processing can be used in:
- Emotion Recognition
- Object Detection
- Image Caption Generator
As a follow up session, students, who were previously assigned to create a project on image processing were asked to present their projects. Their projects were absolutely amazing. They came up with interesting projects such as: Face-Mask Detection, Plate Number Recognition, Text Recognition, and other interesting projects.
Students’ projects presentation closed this Dr. Rasheed class. It’s so great to see how the students are so creative in generating the idea on their projects. See you next week on the Final Project Presentation on Robotics and Image Processing.(IO)***
