Visiting Indonesia to participate in this immersion program, students of LBSIM feels excited yet challenged at the same time. It’s their first time to visit Indonesia; they are challenged to adapt the different culture and situation for sure. India and Indonesia share different taste of food; Indian food tends to be spicy differently from Indonesian cuisine which is slightly lighter than Indian’s. LBSIM students feel that the weather in Indonesia is hotter than in India, and some students of LBSIM even think that the current season in Indonesia is like summer in India. In fact, Indonesia is entering the rainy season where the weather is cooler than dry season. However, that is one of the goals of the immersion program, where students are given the opportunity to immerse themselves in the culture of the country they visit. Thus, it is expected that LBSIM students can realize and experience for themselves the differences and similarities of each country, for this case the cultural differences between India and Indonesia so that they can better understand the issue “cross-cultural understanding” by respecting each other’s culture.
