Advanced Machine Learning Applications, the 12th Online Joint Class Tel-U & MMU

Advanced Machine Learning Applications, the 12th Online Joint Class Tel-U & MMU. Today’s speaker of the 12th Online Joint Class Telkom University, Indonesia & Multimedia University Malaysia (MMU) are Ts. Dr. Rathimala Kannan, a senior lecturer of the MMU and Dr. Dedy Rahman Wijaya, a lecturer of Telkom University. In this occasion they had a chance to present about “Advanced Machine Learning Applications” to hundreds of students from Telkom University, Multimedia University Malaysia and P2A member.

Dr. Rathimala, the first speaker in today’s class covered material on 1) Machine Learning Application in Business, 2) Data Mining Definition, and 3) Data Mining Methods and Machine Learning Techniques (Supervised Learning & Unsupervised Learning). The following are applications of machine learning in Business:

  1. Customer Churn Prediction or Employee Attrition Prediction
It can be used for investigating who likely as a loyal customer and likely to jump.
  2. Personalized Recommendation or Affinity Analysis
It can be used for analyzing what products should be marketed to which prospects.
  3. Target Marketing
It can be used for figuring out determinations whether a person will respond to a certain offer.
  4. Sequential Pattern Mining
It can be used for finding out what next products or services customer will want.

According Dr. Rathimala’s explanation, data mining is the exploration and analysis of large quantities of data in order to discover meaningful patterns and rules. Data mining is largely concerned with building models. A model is simply an algorithm or set of rules that connects a collection of inputs to a particular target or outcome. Data mining method is divided into supervised learning and unsupervised learning. Supervised learning involves classification and regression, while unsupervised learning involves clustering and association rules mining.

Dr. Dedy Rahman Wijaya, the second speaker talked more about machine learning in information system. The development of machine learning starts from the artificial intelligence in 1950s to 1980s then continue to machine learning in 1980s to 2010s and deep learning in 2010s until now. The following is an image illustrating the role of machine learning in information system.
