Telkom University’s ISLA Program Inspires International Students with a Month of Culture, History, and Connection

ISLA, International Students Life & Activities, is an elective program by Telkom University’s International Office designed to enrich international students’ university life and experience in Indonesia, especially in Bandung. ISLA provides various activities, including learning traditional Indonesian music, historical fun walks through Bandung, and cultural competitions, both inter-university and national.

In October, Telkom University’s international students participated in several exciting ISLA activities, such as the International Student Summit 2024, Historical Walk, and After Class Talk.

ISLA October kicked off with the International Student Summit (ISS) 2024 from October 14-16, hosted by Universitas Muhammadiyah Surakarta for KNB scholarship students. Telkom University students participated enthusiastically, with three students performing the traditional “Si Cepot” dance and one representing West Java in a traditional “Jajaka” costume. The students showcase their skills and proudly won third place in the costume competition, leaving a strong impression on attendees.

Mid-month, ISLA continued with the Historical Walk 2024 under the theme “When Nature and History Meet.” This event invited Telkom University international students and peers from nearby campuses to explore the natural and historical attractions of Taman Hutan Raya Ir. H. Djuanda. Participants discovered Indonesia’s history by visiting the Dutch and Japanese caves within the forest, followed by a scenic nature walk where they interacted with native deer. This experience allowed students to enjoy nature’s beauty while gaining insights into Indonesia’s colonial past.

Wrapping up October, ISLA held its monthly After Class Talk (ACT) #7: Navigate Cultural Identity While Living Abroad. This session featured Telkom University students Noormohammad Minhaj from Bangladesh and Zeghaida Imad Ramy from Algeria, who shared their journeys in balancing cultural identity and adapting to life in a foreign land. They captivated the audience with stories of resilience, growth, and cultural integration, inspiring participants to embrace the richness of diverse perspectives.

October has been an inspiring and activity-packed month for Telkom University’s ISLA program. Stay connected on our social media channels for more updates and exciting upcoming events!
