Retracing the Past Embracing the Future, Celebrating National Batik Day (After Class Talk October Series #2). On Friday (2/10), International Office of Telkom University once again held a routine discussion activity called After Class Talk after the previous episode was held in February 2020. However, due to the covid-19 pandemic, the following after class talk activities were held online.
Coinciding with the National Batik Day which is celebrated on October 2, 2020, After Class Talk October Series Episode 2 conducted under the theme “Celebrating National Batik Day: Retracing the Past, Embracing the Future”. By inviting two international students and one Indonesian student, this After Class Talk discussing a lot of experiences and opinions from the invited students.
Sayeed, a student from Afghanistan who was also a Darmasiswa student at Telkom University in 2017, shared his experience in learning batik and how he indirectly promoted batik to his family and country in Afghanistan. Meanwhile, Khansa, an Indonesian student who is also a Telkom University student majoring in crafts, textiles and fashion, shared her opinion on how Batik has developed in Indonesia and how many young people are very proud of batik. Another participant, Sereen, from Egypt, was unable to attend the event in person but she sent a video telling how she first learned to make batik and the motifs she liked.
This episode of After Class Talk was attended by more than 25 participants consisting of international and Indonesian students. In addition, we also invite lecturer from the Creative Industry Faculty, Morinta Rosandini, S.Ds, M.Ds, to share knowledge about the history of batik and its development in Indonesia. There was something slightly different in this after class activity where the participants had the opportunity to get prizes during the door prize session to answer questions from the speakers. Sharing and listening to what they have in mind regarding Batik is very interesting.
