The Kumamoto University Short-Term Exchange Program (STEP) 2026 is designed for full-time 3rd year foreign undergraduate students at universities that have a student exchange agreement with Kumamoto University. The program offers courses on the Japanese language, Japanese and Asian society and culture, and advanced science and technology. At Kumamoto University, there are both half and full-year programs, and students retain full-time student status at their home universities.

KUMAMOTO STEP FALL 2026 is accepted for a half year or one full year that starts in the end of September 2026 to mid-February 2027.

INTERNAL REGISTRATION DEADLINE OF KUMAMOTO STEP FALL 2026
Telkom University students who want to participate in the KUMAMOTO STEP FALL 2026 at Kumamoto University must register beforehand via the internal application link before March 25th, 2026.
PROGRAM OFFERED IN KUMAMOTO STEP FALL 2026
E-Course: This course mainly takes STEP classes taught in English and the Japanese Language classes provided in Japanese. If you wish to take other classes, you must have a consultation with the office staff in advance. Also, those classes will not be calculated towards program completion.
J-Course: Students in this course mainly take classes in specialized subjects for undergraduate students of each faculty, as well as Japanese Language classes. Also, they can take general education classes and STEP classes taught in English.

APPLICANT ELIGIBILITY FOR KUMAMOTO STEP FALL 2026
- Active Telkom University undergraduate students who have passed 1 year of study.
- Having excellent academic records, min GPA of 3.0 and/or above
- Having excellent academic records and good honors with GPA 3.00 (out of 4.00) or above
- Having good English communication skills, proved by English at level TOEFL-iBT score certificate (61 or higher) is required (IELTS 5 and TOEIC 605 score is also accepted).
- Being nominated by the International Office of Telkom University

As the first step, Telkom University students must prepare all the required documents for joining the KUMAMOTO STEP FALL 2026, such as:

- Recent Academic Transcript in English
- Scan of English Proficiency Certificate.

- Formal ID photo (640 pixels × 480 pixels) image: Digital image (JPG, PNG or BMP) of a picture taken within the last 3 months

- Family Relation Certificate (only for applicants with bank certificate under their father or mother’s name)
- Letter of Recommendation by International Office of Telkom University (only for applicants who don’t meet the GPA or language requirement)
- Bachelor’s Degree Certificate (only for Graduate-level applicants)
