How to Study Effectively
Bandung, wondering how to study effectively in university? Well, it’s true that it’s not a “one size / fits all” tricks for everyone. Movies offer lots of misguiding information especially when they picture university. We see all of these perfect looking guys and girls, we see how to enroll in classes late and still managed to get the best out of their study. They have 8 hours sleep daily and able to maintain their social life and study life all together. It’s showing how beautiful and free university life is.
Bad news, most of it exist as the expectation. Good news, we gathered the most effective ways to make your study easier. More effective the study is, more sleep you get and you probably will get the social life you expected. Especially for all new students who have blurry vision about studying in university.
Get Organized
Most of university students are from different part of the countries. Which is mean, most of the students will live alone or share room or house with friends. Being free sometimes make you lost control of your daily routine.
- Create a study plan. If you never done it before, now you have to try to keep one and follow it through. There are many available planner, paper or paperless.
- Plan to study at specific times each week. But don’t forget to include your time for classes, meals, exercise, socializing and personal tasks.
- Keep your schedule balanced and prioritize your academic tasks.
- You should bring your notes or laptop to take notes during the classes. Those notes will help you to study afterward after class.
Pay Attention
It’s important to concentrate and avoid distractions when the lecturer is speaking. Be aware of what distracts you in class and know how to steer clear of these distractions. Example: Turning off your cell phone during class or sitting next to friends if you know they will distract you.
Take notes and ask questions
Writing clear and complete notes in class will help you process the information you learn. You can use this notes before tests. If you don’t understand something, raise your hand and ask. The lecturer are not as scary as you think. They are there and they will help you. In fact they will appreciate you when you tell them that you don’t understand the subject.
Study in short bursts and study with a group
Instead of studying 10 hours straight once a month. You should try to study in short time but do it every day. For every 40 minutes of your study, it will be ideal if take short 5 minutes breaks to recharge. This way it will help you to refocus on your study. When things get tense and boring, you can try to study in group. Working with group encourages an interactive environment to keep you engaged. This gives you a chance to test your knowledge and share it with others.
