GPR System, Online Joint Class Tel-U & Hanbat National University
GPR System, Online Joint Class Tel-U & Hanbat National University. The first Online Joint Class in 2021 has been held this morning, February 23rd 2021. This is the Online Joint Class between Telkom University and Hanbat National University with raise the topic: “Ground Penetrating Radar System”, delivered by Prof. Dong-Ho Lee, Ph.D., a lecturer of Department of Information and Communication Engineering-Hanbat National University. There were about 175 participants who had registered to the online registration. However, surprisingly there were 212 participants attending Prof. Lee’s online class. It showed that participants were very interested in gaining some insight about the GPR System. The class also went smoothly by the help of Ms. Lia Marlia as the chairperson of this online class.
Prof. Lee covered 6 materials in his presentation, including:
- Definition of GPR
- The Need for Road Inspection
- Ground Material Characteristic
- Step Frequency Radar
- Issues on Wideband RF Transceiver
- Final Product
GPR System
Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) is a radar to see under the ground. It is the applications used for landmine detection, archaeology, geology, road inspection, agriculture, collapse area, mine, and underground pipe detection. Different from regular radars, GPR is 1) short-range concept, 2) Near-field analysis, 3) Lossy inhomogeneous propagation medium, and 4) Unwanted backscattering.
GPR can be used for road inspection by preparing the following needs:
- Sinkholes and potholes
- New road pavement inspection
- Old road condition inspection
- Finding the location of underground facilities (not only roads, but also railroads, bridges, tunnel wall inspection)
In his presentation, Prof. Lee showed GPR Project and how the GPR worked. To make it more comprehensive, Prof. Lee also employed the video to the participants showing the GPR system at the end of his presentation. Unfortunately during the discussion session there was a slight disturbance where participants who wanted to ask experienced connectivity and noise problems. However, this lasted for a while, then the discussion session was continued with the participants equating their questions through the chat feature.
Before implementing this online course, Telkom University and Hanbat National University has been implementing Joint Research Program. They are collaborating in Citarum Harum Project to make innovation technology on the river water filter technology for plastic waste, and drones to measure river water quality. Hopefully this collaboration will continue to provide knowledge as well as experience to our students.(IO)***
