Sustainable Supply Chain Management, 3rd Online Joint Class. Online Joint Class between Telkom University (Tel-U) and University Technology PETRONAS (UTP) was successfully held by the International Office of Telkom University on Wednesday, 3 March 2021 at 2 pm (Indonesian Time) or 3 pm (Malaysian Time). Sustainable Supply Chain Management is the 3rd Online Joint Class. By presenting two guest speakers, Dr. Femi Yulianti, S.Si., M.T., Lecturer at Telkom University, and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Hasbullah Ashari, Lecturer at University Technology PETRONAS shared a topic on “Sustainable Supply Chain Management”. This Online Joint Class was also attended by more than 100 international and national students from both universities.
Dr. Femi discussed the understanding of the supply chain. She explained that a supply chain is a network between a company and its suppliers to produce and distribute a specific product to the final buyer. The supply chain also represents the steps it takes to get the product or service from its original state to the customer. She also explained that the supply chain management is defined as the systemic, strategic, coordination of the traditional business function and the tactics across these business function within a particular company and across businesses within the supply chain, for the purposes of improving the long-term performance of the individual companies and the supply chain as a whole.
Sustainable Supply Chain Management
Meanwhile, Prof. Dr. Hasbullah presented about the sustainable supply chain management.
He said, supply chain management which is encompasses all activities associated with the flow and transformation of goods from the raw materials stage though the end user, as well as the associated information flows.
He also explained that development is sustainable, which meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs. Hence, Sustainable supply chain management requires sustainability criteria that met while maintaining comparability through meeting customer needs.
“Sustainable supply chain management is the future,” he added.
The importance of sustainability in a sustainable supply chain also helps increase productivity while saving money. By using sustainable technical and sourcing, we can increase the efficiency of our buildings, vehicles, and machinery at significant cost savings. Sustainable supply chain management must be developed and mastered by the youth. (IO)***
