Blockchain Technology and Applications, Webinar Series 2

Webinar Series 2 Blockchain Technology and Applications was successfully held on Wednesday, 17th March 2021 at 2.30 PM (GMT+7) by Telkom University through International Office in collaboration with Saxion University of Applied Science. By inviting several Blockchain’s experts from both universities, this webinar was attended by 100 participants from Vietnam, Indonesia, Netherland, Spain, China, Aljazeera, Austria, Australia, German, Italia, Madagascar, Peru, Somalia, Sudan, Timor Leste, etc. This webinar session invited three main speakers including:

  1. George Garritsen (Saxion University of Applied Science): “Blockchain in Health” (1st webinar speaker)
  2. Jan Veuger (Saxion University of Applied Science): “Blockchain in Finance & Decentralized Finance” (2nd webinar speaker)
  3. Ari Moesriami Barmawi, Ph.D. (Telkom University): “Blockchain Security” (3rd webinar speaker)

In this webinar, audience informed that a mysterious hacker named Satoshi Nakamoto founded, distributed register technology, Blockchain, can immensely change many industries, from finance, health, education, assets to the show biz industry. Blockchain, recently becomes one of the biggest buzzword in technology. This is why the webinar is very interesting.

Webinar Blockchain in Health

In this webinar, George Garritsen from Saxion University of Applied Science introduces interesting application of Blockchain in the field of Health. According to him, Blockchain technology has the potential to remodel health care, placing the patient at the center of the health care ecosystem and increasing the protection, and privacy of health data. While it is not an elixir, this new, rapidly evolving field provides fertile ground for experimentation, investment, and proof-of-concept testing.

Whereas Prof. Jan Veuger from Saxion University of Applied Science discussed the term of decentralized finance (DeFi) in this webinar. It uses smart contracts to form protocols that replicate existing financial services in an exceedingly more open, interoperable, and transparent way. All DeFi protocols and applications are sensible contracts. Smart contracts generally talk over with small applications stored on a blockchain and executed in parallel by an oversized set of validators within the context of public blockchains, the network is meant so each participant is involved in and verifies the proper execution of any operation.

Closing this webinar, Ari Moesriami Barmawi, Ph.D. conveys an interesting view regarding to Blockchain Security. According to her, there is no single technology is a panacea for security and privacy of Blockchain. It works more effectively than using a single technology. There is also no technology that has no defects or is perfect in all aspects.

This is the last webinar series in Blockchain between Telkom University & Saxion University. Hopefully, there will be more webinar in the future.(IO)***
