Laboratory of Smart Farming 4.0

Laboratory of Smart Farming 4.0

Laboratory of Smart Farming 4.0. In implementing the third pillar of education, namely community service, Telkom University is now presenting new innovations in agriculture and plantations. As we all know that technology development is getting faster from time to time, as we are now entering revolution 4.0. Not only in the fields of education and health, but technology also can now help us in all sectors, including agriculture.

In collaboration with the Tea and Quinine Research Center (PPTK) Gambung through the Joint Research Program, Telkom University presents the Laboratory of Smart Farming 4.0, located in the PPTK Gambung area. The Tea and Quinine Research Center (PPTK) Gambung was originally the only government-owned research institute engaged in tea and quinine research. Apart from having a role in environmental conservation, the tea and quinine sector also plays a role in the absorption of labor. Based on the same vision, which is providing benefits and achieving added value for a product, Telkom University and PPTK Gambung collaborate in the Joint Research Program to create innovations in agriculture that can help the economy, especially in the fields of tea and quinine.

From this Joint Research Program, Telkom University and PPTK Gambung innovate 2 products which are being developed to help improve the quality of plantations, including:

  1. Early Warning System
  2. Harvesting Prediction

Early Warning System uses 6 sensors whose function is to measure temperature, wind direction, rainfall, humidity, light intensity and wind speed. Later it will be used to assist farmers in preventing pests/diseases in their plantations. Meanwhile, Harvesting Prediction is a drone-shaped device with Images Processing technology that will see the color of the tea leaves, whether the tea is ready to be harvested or not. This tool will make the process more effective, so that the harvest time can be timelier. With the existence of the Laboratory of Smart Farming 4.0, it is expected that the products produced, especially tea and quinine, will increase and have better quality.(IO)***
