Turkey is bordered by eight countries: <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Bulgaria\">Bulgaria<\/a> to the northwest; <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Greece\">Greece<\/a> to the west; <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Georgia_%28country%29\">Georgia<\/a> to the northeast; <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Armenia\">Armenia<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Iran\">Iran<\/a> and the <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Azerbaijan\">Azerbaijani<\/a> <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Exclave\">exclave<\/a> of <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Nakhchivan_Autonomous_Republic\">Nakhchivan<\/a> to the east; and <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Iraq\">Iraq<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Syria\">Syria<\/a> to the south. The <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Mediterranean_Sea\">Mediterranean Sea<\/a> is to the south; the <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Aegean_Sea\">Aegean Sea<\/a> to the west; and the <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Black_Sea\">Black Sea<\/a> to the north. The <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Sea_of_Marmara\">Sea of Marmara<\/a>, the <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Bosphorus\">Bosphorus<\/a> and the <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Dardanelles\">Dardanelles<\/a> (which together form the <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Turkish_Straits\">Turkish Straits<\/a>) demarcate the boundary between <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Thrace\">Thrace<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Anatolia\">Anatolia<\/a>; they also separate Europe and Asia.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Turkey is a <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Democracy\">democratic<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Secular_state\">secular<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Unitary_state\">unitary<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Republic\">constitutional republic<\/a> with a <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Multiculturalism\">diverse cultural heritage<\/a>. The country&#8217;s official language is <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Turkish_language\">Turkish<\/a>, a <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Turkic_languages\">Turkic language<\/a> spoken natively by approximately 85 percent of the population. 70\u201380 percent of the population are ethnic <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Turkish_people\">Turks<\/a>; the remainder consists of <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Treaty_of_Lausanne#Stipulations\">legally recognized<\/a> (<a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Armenians_in_Turkey\">Armenians<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Greeks_in_Turkey\">Greeks<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Jews_in_Turkey\">Jews<\/a>) and unrecognized (<a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Kurds_in_Turkey\">Kurds<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Circassians_in_Turkey\">Circassians<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Albanians_in_Turkey\">Albanians<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Bosniaks_in_Turkey\">Bosniaks<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Georgians_in_Turkey\">Georgians<\/a>, etc.) minorities The vast majority of the population is <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Muslim\">Muslim<\/a>. Turkey is a member of the <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/United_Nations\">UN<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/NATO\">NATO<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Organization_for_Economic_Co-operation_and_Development\">OECD<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Organization_for_Security_and_Co-operation_in_Europe\">OSCE<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Organisation_of_Islamic_Cooperation\">OIC<\/a> and the <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/G-20_major_economies\">G-20<\/a>. After becoming <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Member_states_of_the_Council_of_Europe\">one of the first members<\/a> of the <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Council_of_Europe\">Council of Europe<\/a> in 1949, Turkey became an <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Ankara_Agreement\">associate member<\/a> of the <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/European_Economic_Community\">EEC<\/a> in 1963, joined the <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/European_Union_Customs_Union\">EU Customs Union<\/a> in 1995 and started <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Accession_of_Turkey_to_the_European_Union\">full membership negotiations<\/a> with the <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/European_Union\">European Union<\/a> in 2005. Turkey&#8217;s growing economy and diplomatic initiatives have led to its recognition as a <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Regional_power\">regional power<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The coastal areas of Turkey bordering the Aegean and Mediterranean Seas have a temperate Mediterranean climate, with hot, dry summers and mild to cool, wet winters. The coastal areas bordering the Black Sea have a temperate Oceanic climate with warm, wet summers and cool to cold, wet winters. The coastal areas bordering the Sea of Marmara, which connects the Aegean Sea and the Black Sea, have a transitional climate between a temperate Mediterranean climate and a temperate Oceanic climate with warm to hot, moderately dry summers and cool to cold, wet winters. Snow falls on the coastal areas of the Sea of Marmara and the Black Sea almost every winter, but usually melts in no more than a few days. However snow is rare in the coastal areas of the Aegean Sea and very rare in the coastal areas of the Mediterranean Sea. Mountains close to the coast prevent Mediterranean influences from extending inland, giving the central Anatolian plateau of the interior of Turkey a continental climate with sharply contrasting seasons.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Winters on the eastern part of the plateau are especially severe. Temperatures of \u221230 to \u221240 \u00b0C (\u221222 to \u221240 \u00b0F) can occur in eastern Anatolia. Snow may remain at least 120 days of the year. In the west, winter temperatures average below 1 \u00b0C (34 \u00b0F). Summers are hot and dry, with temperatures often above 30 \u00b0C (86 \u00b0F) in the day. The driest regions are the Konya plain and the Malatya plain, where annual rainfall is often less than 300 millimetres (12 in). May is generally the wettest month, whereas July and August are the driest.<\/p>\n<h1 class=\"level3\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">Educations<\/h1>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Ministry_of_National_Education_%28Turkey%29\">Ministry of National Education<\/a> is responsible for pre-tertiary education.\u00a0 This is compulsory and lasts twelve years: four years each of primary school, middle school and high school. Less than half of 25-34 year old Turks have completed at least <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/High_school\">high school<\/a>, compared with an <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/OECD\">OECD<\/a> average of over 80 percent. Basic education in Turkey is considered to lag behind other OECD countries, with significant differences between high and low performers. Bilkent University is proud to provide an environment for learning and intellectual growth encompassing the sciences, technology and humanities, and will surely continue to rank amongst the finest universities in the world.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<h2>Sabanc\u0131 \u00fcniversitesi<\/h2>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/io.telkomuniversity.ac.id\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/03\/Sabanc\u0131-\u00fcniversitesi.gif\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-3280 alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/io.telkomuniversity.ac.id\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/03\/Sabanc\u0131-\u00fcniversitesi.gif\" alt=\"Sabanc\u0131 \u00fcniversitesi\" width=\"472\" height=\"313\" \/><\/a>Under the direction of one of Turkey&#8217;s leading family-run foundations, the Sabanc\u0131 Foundation, the Sabanc\u0131 Group established Sabanc\u0131 University in July 1994. More than fifty academicians from 22 different countries, students, and individuals from the private sector participated in the conference in August 1995. At the end of the conference, based on the knowledge and experience of the participants, the key philosophy of a &#8220;world university&#8221; emerged: &#8220;creating and developing together.&#8221; This conference was followed by design committees which worked under the guidance of a &#8220;Student Tendency Survey&#8221; and other academic program design activities.<br \/>\nThe groundbreaking ceremony for the Sabanc\u0131 University campus took place on July 31, 1997. The University began its first academic year on October 20, 1999. It has played a guiding and influential role in the social and cultural life of our country. We can clearly see this when we trace the line of historical development of the University. Istanbul University, as one of the oldest educational institutions, not only of Turkey, but also of the world, was founded when Mehmet the Conqueror conquered Istanbul.
