Telkom University and Coimbatore Institute of Technology Short Course 2026: Bridging Nations Through Education

Bandung, Indonesia — Telkom University (TelU) and Coimbatore Institute of Technology (CIT) successfully completed a collaborative short course program held from May 16 to 26, 2026, at the Telkom University campus in Bandung, West Java, Indonesia. The ten-day short course brought together more than 230 student participants from CIT alongside lecturers and faculty members from both institutions, marking a significant milestone in the growing academic partnership between Indonesia and India.

The short course officially began on Saturday, May 16, 2026, with the arrival of the CIT delegation at Telkom University. Two days later, on Monday, May 18, the campus came alive with a vibrant Welcoming Ceremony that formally opened the program. Representatives from both universities delivered opening remarks, expressing their commitment to nurturing international academic ties through initiatives like this short course. The ceremony featured a stunning performance of the Merak Dance (Tari Merak), a traditional West Javanese peacock dance that offered the Indian delegation a warm and authentic introduction to Indonesian culture.

Following the ceremony, participants embarked on a comprehensive Campus Tour, visiting Telkom University’s Center of Excellence (CoE), state-of-the-art laboratories at the Faculty of Informatics and Technology (FIT), the innovative OpenLib, and the broader campus grounds. The day wrapped up with a CSR International Session, where both delegations discussed the social responsibilities that universities carry in driving sustainable community development.

On Tuesday, May 19, the academic heart of the short course began beating. Students from CIT dived into Knowledge Sharing sessions and structured assignments, while a lively Talk Show gathered participants from all study programs under one roof. The session drew active engagement from all 230 CIT student participants, creating an open forum for cross-cultural intellectual exchange — one of the defining ambitions of this short course.

Wednesday, May 20 expanded the academic scope further. Students continued with Knowledge Sharing and assignment activities, while lecturers from both institutions held dedicated Research Talks to explore potential areas of joint academic inquiry. In a lighter but equally meaningful session, students from the D3PH program took part in a hands-on Cooking Class and Cultural Exchange activity, celebrating diversity through the universal language of food. Prof. Valliappan from CIT also delivered a special teaching session for Telkom University’s postgraduate students, bringing international academic perspectives directly into the graduate classroom.

Academic output came into sharp focus on Thursday, May 21, when students began the first Paper Drafting session — a highlight of the short course that challenged participants to collaborate across cultural and academic boundaries to produce original academic work. Concurrently, faculty members from study programs including MP, PH, SIKC, S2 RTI, RPLA, SI, SIA, TK, and TT gathered for a structured Curriculum Review, aligning academic frameworks and exploring pathways for future joint programs between TelU and CIT.

Friday, May 22 was fully dedicated to Paper Drafting Session 2, giving student teams the focused environment needed to refine and finalize their collaborative papers. This two-session paper drafting experience is among the most academically impactful elements of the short course, equipping students with real skills in international co-authorship and research writing.

Saturday, May 23 offered participants a welcome break from the classroom with a rich cultural excursion. The delegation visited the iconic Gedung Sate Museum in Bandung, where they explored the city’s colonial history and architectural heritage. After lunch at a local restaurant, the group headed to the world-famous Saung Angklung Udjo, where they were captivated by a spectacular performance of Angklung — a traditional West Javanese bamboo musical ensemble recognized by UNESCO as an Intangible Cultural Heritage. This cultural immersion added a deeply humanizing dimension to the short course, ensuring participants returned home not only with academic knowledge but also with vivid memories of Indonesian art and tradition.

The final academic day, Monday, May 25, brought the short course to a meaningful close. Participants gathered for a Finalization and Evaluation session to reflect on their learning journey and assess the outcomes of the program. The day concluded with a Closing Statement and Certificate Handover Ceremony, presided over by the Deanship of the Faculty of Informatics and Technology (FIT). Certificates were presented to all participants as formal recognition of their dedication and achievement throughout this intensive short course.

A New Chapter in Indonesia–India Academic Partnership

The Telkom University–CIT Short Course 2026 has set a powerful precedent for what international academic collaboration can look like in practice. Over ten days, students and faculty from Indonesia and India shared knowledge, drafted research papers, reviewed curricula, and immersed themselves in each other’s cultures — all under the umbrella of a single, carefully designed short course. Both universities have expressed strong enthusiasm for expanding this partnership, with discussions already underway on joint research publications, dual-degree opportunities, and future editions of the program.
