Good Health and Well-Being, ACT Series #2

Good Health and Well-Being, ACT Series #2. In this episode, the After Class Talk raised the topic of The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The SDGs also known as the Global Goals, were adopted by all United Nations Member States in 2015 as a universal call to action to end poverty, protect the planet and ensure that all people enjoy peace and prosperity by 2030.

There are 17 global goals designed to be a blueprint to achieve a better and more sustainable future for all. And in this episode, they discussed about the Goals Number 3 of SDGs which is Good Health and Well-Being. The After Class Talk Episode 2 was held on Friday, 26th February 2021 by International Office of Telkom University.

Presenting a guest speaker, a psychologist and lecturer, Sarah Aisha, MA under the topic “Good Health and Well-Being” as the third point of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). This sharing session explores various positive psychology tools and exercises, state that well-being is about feeling happy, and inspire young people to make changes towards a thriving life.

Good health for Students

Attended by more than 30 participants, in this session, Sarah discussed a flourishing life well-being for students good health. “Positive psychology is the scientific study of the strengths that enable individuals and communities to thrive on the belief that people want to lead meaningful and fulfilling lives to cultivate what is the best within themselves, and to enhance their experiences of love, work, and play” she said.

She also explained about good health, that well-being includes that presence of positive emotions mood (contentment, happiness), the absence of negative emotions (depression, anxiety), satisfaction with life fulfillment and positive functioning in simple terms, well-being can be described as judging life positively and feeling good.

A flourishing life well-being is fundamental to the overall good health of an individual, enabling them to successfully overcome difficulties and achieve what they want in their life. In fact, from the past experiences that people have been through can affect their attitudes, outlook, and can impact well being as physically or emotionally.

Global goal good health

Taken form undp.org : Good health is essential to sustainable development and the 2030 Agenda reflects the complexity and interconnectedness of the two. It takes into account widening economic and social inequalities, rapid urbanization, threats to the climate and the environment, the continuing burden of HIV and other infectious diseases, and emerging challenges such as noncommunicable diseases. Universal good health coverage will be integral to achieving SDG 3, ending poverty and reducing inequalities. Emerging global good health priorities not explicitly included in the SDGs, including antimicrobial resistance, also demand action.

Related to education, unesco.org says : Well-being is a feeling of satisfaction with life, a state characterized by health, happiness, and prosperity. Good health concerns the care of the human body and everything that can be done to protect it from sickness and intoxication and enable access to care. Education is key to educate people good health, especially on drug and alcohol abuse and prevention as well as on mental health issues. It provides relevant good health knowledge and information about family planning, sex education and reproductive health.

The After Class Talk 2021 presents two main topics about the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), and the International Student Series program which invites international students, professionals, and academics to deliver sessions sharing any area of interest and related to the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
