Collaborative Research with Hanbat University

Bandung, Collaborative research with Hanbat University Korea with Telkom University as a world-class university was held in Faculty of Electrical Engineering on 2nd July 2018. This collaboration also support the University’s target as an International University where the distribution of cooperation must be globalized. This is certainly to show the existence of Telkom University in the eyes of universities around the world.

Director of Innovation Center of Hanbat National University Prof Chong Geun Lee said that this is a good opportunity for the university’s team and students to study at Telkom University. “This collaboration will focus on making the Internet of Things (IoT). We hoped to make useful products and other relevant things together.” He said when giving a speech.

According to the explanation of Technopedia, The internet of things (IoT) is a computing concept that describes the idea of everyday physical objects being connected to the internet and being able to identify themselves to other devices. The term is closely identified with RFID as the method of communication, although it also may include other sensor technologies, wireless technologies or QR codes.

The IoT is significant because an object that can represent itself digitally becomes something greater than the object by itself. No longer does the object relate just to its user, but it is now connected to surrounding objects and database data. When many objects act in unison, they are known as having “ambient intelligence.”

This cooperation program has been written in Faculty of Electrical Engineering’s strategic plan. In addition of Collaborative Research, Faculty of Electrical Engineering also provide a global academic program like summer school which will be held at the end of July 2018. “we will certainly invite the colleagues who are present here to join the program” said Dean of Faculty of Electrical Engineering Dr. Bambang Setia Nugroho, S.T.,M.T.

This Collaborative Research was conducted in Gambung, Ciwidey, Bandung for one week (2nd July 2018 until 7th July 2018. On an area of 600 Ha. Telkom University and Hanbat University will create a tea plant hall using IoT. Where the IoT will help to classify 11 types of tea plants, monitor the ready-to-plant tea and plant the geographical aerials using drones. This research was represented by 14 students of Hanbat University and supervised by professors.
