Collaborative Research and Innovation of Indonesian Higher Educations for the New Order

Collaborative Research and Innovation of Indonesian Higher Educations for the New Order. The second webinar which was held in collaboration between Telkom University and the Islamic University of Indonesia was carried out smoothly and successfully on Tuesday, August 25, 2020. This time, the focus of this webinar was encouraging Indonesian higher educations to work together in collaborative research and innovation to support advance Indonesia by inviting several experts in the field of research and innovation:

  1. Adhi Indra Hermanu, S.T., M.T., M.M.
Head of Sub Directorate of Basic Research, Directorate of Research and Community Service, Deputy for Strengthening Research and Development – The Ministry of Research and Technology/National Research and Innovation Agency
  2. Dr. Rina Pudji Astuti, M.T.
Vice Rector for Research, Innovation, and International Partnership, Telkom University
  3. Angga Rusdinar. S.T., M.T., Ph.D
Director of Research and Community Service, Telkom University
  4. Ir. Wiryono Raharjo, M.Arch., Ph.D
Vice Rector for Networking and for Networking & Entrepreneurship, Islamic University of Indonesia
  5. Prof. Dr. Is Fatimah, S.Si., M.Si.
Researcher and Head of Chemistry Department, Islamic University of Indonesia

In his explanation, Mr Adhi stated that there are many opportunities for research collaboration especially during this pandemic. Many consortia can be explored to become partners in conducting research so that they can help fund research such as Research-Innovation Consortium for Covid-19 that was firstly initiated in March 2020. It is a collaboration between government, universities, research institute, industry, Diaspora, association, and hospital.

In addition, researchers can also partner with overseas researchers by joining an international consortium. This of course can add international partners that can benefit the institution which has the potential to open up other partnerships. Why collaboration is more important than individual research, because it will drive to many benefits, including:

  1. Sharing & supporting technology integration
  2. Increasing efficiency
  3. Building social networks
  4. Sharing responsibility
  5. Saving time
  6. Sharing expertise
  7. Promoting problem solving
  8. Sharing skills and perspective

Dr. Rina Pudji Astuti, M.T., in this occasion shared several research centers owned by Telkom Universities as well as shared the expertise of each research center. This aims to introduce and invite other researchers to join collaborative research and innovation. While, Ir. Wiryono Raharjo, M.Arch., Ph.D., beside introducing research center in the Islamic University of Indonesia, mentioned some consortia such as Erasmus+ CBHE, Erasmus+ GITA, Erasmus+ BUiLD, and etc.

Both Telkom University and the Islamic University of Indonesia open opportunities for researchers to collaborate and work together to build the country. Besides, to get international partners is actually more on the aspect of trust. Universities can look for credible foreign universities as well as credible researchers who can be obtained through conferences or in other reputable journals. Simply put, if a lecturer who has studied abroad can try to contact his supervisor and colleagues first. From there it can be continued with the initiation of cooperation which can be drafted into the MoU so that it has a more legal institutional ground.(IO)***
