Make International Office Stronger

Make International Office Stronger. International Office in Indonesian universities has a major role in supporting its university towards the implementation of World Class University. That is why the strengthening of each member of the International Office in term of internationalization knowledge and experience is very important. This is the highlight of the training that our staff involved in Surabaya last week.

Telkom University participated in the training of Penguatan Kantor Urusan Internasional (PKUI) on November 20-22, 2019 at Sepuluh November Institute of Technology (ITS), Surabaya. The main purpose of the training was to share information and experiences in managing and strengthening the International Office. Participated by several delegates of various universities in Indonesia, the training was successfully organized by the international office of ITS.

The agenda of the training was employed in three days. International partnership, including brief overview of the Understanding World Class University Ranking, Globalization: Challenges & Opportunities, Developing Internationalization Strategy, Handling Partnership & MOU, Managing Consortium, and Exploring Partnership Opportunities through International Education Exhibition was delivered in the first day. All participants had a chance to share information and experiences including common obstacles in handling and managing international partnership in each university.

Having had knowledge of the strategy in handling and managing international partnership in the first day, all participants had speed dating with SixERS member from Japan such as Kumamoto University, Kanazawa University, Nagasaki University, and Okayama University. Besides, all participants also had a chance to interact with participants of Inbound Staff Mobility from various universities such as University of Applied Science in Nysa, Poland, Mae Fah Luang University, Thailand, Dicle University, Turkey, etc.  This speed dating enabled all participants to discuss the possibility of having cooperation as well as collaboration with those universities.

Along with managing international partnership, managing international students as the implementation of the cooperation was also discussed in the second day. All participants were well informed about the immigration process as well as the hospitality and activities given to the international students. As managing international students are quite hard to manage by international office staff only, the student volunteers are really a big help. Furthermore, how to recruit, treat, manage, evaluate and reward the students volunteer were pretty important to be discussed on the third day. Live testimony from several student volunteers gave all participants overview how struggling yet exciting they were to be part of the volunteers. Besides, to support the international office operation, the use of website and social media was also discussed in the training, including how to create contact database, MoU and MoA database, and marketing in social media.(IO)***
